The objectives of the Association are to:
- Advance plant UV research by promoting and sharing knowledge and collaboration among researchers from academic and non-academic organisations.
- Promote and foster a culture of research-excellence and good practice in plant UV research.
- Provide channels for members to inform the plant UV research community about relevant activities or events of common interest.
- Enhance the usefulness of plant UV research by facilitating the transfer of knowledge from academia to stakeholders and the general public.
- Initiate and foster stakeholder contacts as part of an agenda of product development.
- Liaise with scientific funding bodies to inform their research agenda.
- Liaise with other learned-scientific bodies for the benefit of the members.
- Develop with its members the benefits of membership and the relevance of the Association.
Ceravision will use the UV420 grow-light, with its unique spectrum comprising UV-A, UV-B and blue light, to:
- To further the knowledge of UV.
- Demonstrate the improvements that UV-A and UV-B can deliver in the production of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs).
- Assist the development of high value nutrional foods, improved global food security and new medicinal and health compounds.

First UV420 Plasma Grow Lights Unloaded at Greenhouse Effect
The UV420 plasma grow light is a supplementary grow-light designed to complement HPS grow-lights and deliver blue-light, UV-light and UV-B light now accepted by horticutlure experts as being essential for maximising plant growth and crop value.
The UV420 is a prefect supplementary grow-light for a range of high value crops such as tomatoes, chillies, tobacco and cannabis.

Described by Greenhouse Effect as the 'next generation of grow lighting', the UV420 plasma grow-lights offers prolonged life and output, larger yields, higher quality and better crop protection.
The UV420 plasma grow-light produces visible blue and green spectrum light and high levels of ultra violet - UV-A light and UV-B light.
UV420 Plasma Grow-Light at Amsterdam Greentech Show
A ground-breaking new lamp that is ideal for maximising plant growth is being launched by UK lighting pioneer Ceravision Ltd at the Greentech show in Amsterdam in June 12-14 2018. Ceravision Commercial Director, Stuart Stoddart said "Not only does the lamp and patented spectrum provide an exceptional alternative for growers seeking to increase photosynthetic rates, yield and disease resistance; its exceptionally high output means one Ceravision UV420 can replace at least two conventional lamps . No other lamp can offer similar performance.."
Ultra-long lamp life is another core feature of the Ceravision UV420 lamp along with UV light to enhance plant characterists and crop values. This was developed by a team of brilliant scientists at Ceravision, based in Milton Keynes. The recently invented lamp dose combines a unique process in which the materials are evaporated within the lamp, which results in no chemical reactions, resulting in near-zero degradation. Ceravision's chief scientist, Barry Preston remarked: "After extensive testing we are yet to locate failure mechanisms." As a result, whereas metal halide lamps last just 10,000 hours and standard LEDs around 20,000 hours, the Ceravision UV420 lamp has an average life of no less than 50,000 hours.
The significance of the UV output is outstanding, said Stuart. Growers who identify with secondary photomorphogenic plant responses and UV will see major benefits, including growing medical cannabis and biotech companies involved in plant taxa for medicine. The UV420 lamp has been tested both at the Rothamsted Research station in Hertfordshire, UK, and at a multinational's experimental science centre in Cambridge.
Julian Franklin, head of controlled environment agriculture at Rothamsted Research, confirms that during trials with LED's and metal halide lamps, Ceravision's HEP lamps were the best performing technology in some key areas like embryo development, essential for plant health.
Mr Stoddart added: "The UV420 gives plant growers increased levels of UV-B light, which can lead to increased yields of up to 30%, and better quality crops with higher nutrition levels."
HEP Plasma Grow-Lights Outperform LEDs & Legacy Lamps in Scientific Trials
The testing of Ceravision’s High Efficiency Plasma (HEP) grow-lights in Rothamsted and in commercial premises has been underway now for several months. The testing compares Ceravision’s HEP grow-lights with legacy metal halide lamps and new LED systems and their impact upon the growth of wheat and other high value crops.
Ceravision’s HEP grow-lights are outperforming both the metal halide lamps and the LED systems in Embryo Development, a key performance metric in respect of plant development.
Rothamsted Research in Harpenden, England is the oldest agricultural research station in the world. Rothamsted’s aim is to deliver the knowledge and new practices to increase crop productivity and quality and to develop environmentally sustainable solutions for food and energy production.
Mr Julian Franklin, Head of Horticulture and Controlled Environments at Rothamsted said that observations in the wheat crop under trial proves that the Ceravision luminaires are producing the best results compared to metal halide lamps and LEDs in respect of embryo development - one of the major factors in plant growth and plant development.
The embryo of a plant is key to its reproduction and growth. The ‘wheat germ’ is the embryo of the wheat kernel which is separated in milling and used especially as a source of vitamins and protein in a variety of food products.
The 420W HEP lamp light quality was better and the impact of having light available in the blue / UV region within the broad spectrum is a significant factor.
Building on this work , Ceravision has now launched its new UV420W grow-light. This unique grow-light produces not only high intensity visible blue spectrum light but also provides increased levels of ultra violet (UV) light (UV-A, UV-B).

Rothamsted Open Innovation Forum Report
Ceravision were recently invited to exhibit and present at the first annual Rothamsted Open Innovation Forum, a new initiative designed to accelerate collaboration for the development of game-changing innovations addressing global food and nutrition security challenges.
Dr. Graeme Lister's presentation was extrememly well recieved and the level of interest in Ceravision's plasma lighting technology was overwhelming.
Representatives from huge 'game-players' in the horticulture market were invited to attend the conference and exhibition with a variety of very excitng contacts made.
The Rt Hon. George Freeman MP was also on hand to lend his support to new technologies in the horticulture market .
